Tezpur, June 05 : At a time when the World is still combating the ghastly Pandemic, it’s extremely important to respect and acknowledge everything that the environment has given us and that we should take the pledge to protect it.
The West Tezpur Regional Bodo Student’s Union (ABSU) today joined rest of the World to celebrate the World Environment Day 2021 adhering to all Covid protocols.
This year the World Environment Day is themed on ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ and calls for urgent action to revive the damaged ecosystems.
The day started with a Plantation Drive of Nag Champa Plant at Jugal Higher Secondary School and saplings belonging to various species followed by plant distribution programme at Amiya Das Higher Secondary School, New Ghotuwa Primary School to mention a few.
Former Honorary Wildlife Warden and Environment lover, Saurav Borkataki was invited as the Guest of Honour where he was accompanied by his Team Sarpabandhab Members – Uttam Borkataki, Rajballav Sarma and Pranab Ghosh.
Other Guests present in the day long programme were renowned Journalists of Sonitpur, Sri Arup Kalita from Dainik Agradoot, Sri Dibya Jyoti Nath from Dainik Pratidin and Sri Shambhu Boro from Assam Tribune who is also serving as the Chief Advisor of West Tezpur ABSU.
Former Cultural Secretary of Central Bodo Student’s Union, Jiten Basumatary; Public Relations Secretary of Sonitpur District ABSU, Nabajyoti Boro; President, General Secretary and all other executive members of West Tezpur ABSU joined the programme.
World Environment Day is celebrated every year on 5 June and is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment.
