TU student death to be investigated by three-member committee

To ensure a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding sudden death of a Post Graduate student of M.Sc., Dept. of Environmental Science, who was found dead in his hostel room in the morning of 22-06-2023, hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University has constituted a three-member committee to investigate the cause of this unfortunate incident.

“The incident, which occurred on 22-06-2023 has deeply saddened the Tezpur University community and in order to ascertain the facts and to prevent such incidents in future, the University has taken the step to initiate a thorough investigation”, Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University said.

The three-member committee shall examine the events leading up to the student’s death and identify potential areas for improvement. The Committee will submit a report within thirty days from the date of issue of the notification.

The committee members are-Prof. Dhanapati Deka, Convenor (of the Committee) & former Dean, Students Welfare, Prof. B.K Danta of Dept. of English and Dr. Madhurima Goswami, Head, Chandraprabha Saikiani Centre for Women Studies.

Tezpur University remains resolute in its dedication to upholding the welfare and safety of its students. The institution will take appropriate actions based on the committee’s findings and recommendations to prevent such incidents in the future.
