Tezpur Airport to remain shut for maintenance works scheduled from Oct 2024 to March 2026

Tezpur airport is set for a major transformation with an 18-month closure scheduled from October 1, 2024, to March 31, 2026. Airport Director G Shiva Kumar announced this extended shutdown to facilitate crucial maintenance work and facility upgrades. The primary focus is on runway resurfacing, necessitated by the unique dual-use nature of the airport, which serves both commercial flights and military jets from the adjacent Indian Air Force Tezpur Base.

These renovations aim to improve and upgrade the overall facilities and experience at the terminal. Currently, the airport serves as a vital transportation hub, with daily flights to Kolkata operated by SpiceJet and two other airlines offering connections via Guwahati and Pasighat.

Recognizing the potential disruption, authorities are exploring alternative travel options. The possibility of introducing helicopter services between Tezpur and Guwahati is under consideration, though details are yet to be finalized. While the extended shutdown presents challenges, it promises long-term benefits for air travelers in the region.
