Tezpur, 10th Sep : The world suicide prevention day 2022 was observed today by the students of Tezpur University enrolled under the National Service Scheme, in collaboration with Darrang college and Youth Wellness Hub, LGBRIMH Tezpur.
The team of students from Tezpur university performed a skit on the need to aware people on preventing suicide. Various other activities like public awareness programme in nearby colleges, schools were also conducted by psychiatry, child psychiatry department.
Sessions on de- addiction and mental health were conducted at Pachmile Higher Secondary School where around 90 number Of students participated. The day was also observed by conducting a lot of other activities for the patients and their attendants by the departments of LGBRMH i.e the department of psychiatric mental health, nursing , department of child psychiatry and psychiatric social work.
It is to be noted that World Suicide Prevention Day, celebrated annually on 10 September, is organized by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) and endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO). This day marks the world’s commitment to give attention to suicide prevention and it is being observed since 2003 with the objective to improve education on suicide, raise awareness that suicide is preventable and decrease stigmatization associated with suicide .
