Tezpur University welcomes International Students from 22 Countries as new Academic Session begins

Tezpur, August 24, 2025 (Sunday): As the new academic session begins, Tezpur University has welcomed a vibrant community of international students from 22 countries, further strengthening the University’s tradition of diversity and excellence. The students hail from Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Africa, and Northern Europe.

This year, students have joined Tezpur University from Eswatini, Ethiopia, Turkmenistan, Bangladesh, Malawi, Botswana, Togo, Gambia, Kenya, Burkina Faso, Lesotho, Mongolia, Bhutan, Lithuania, Nepal, Sudan, Zambia, Tanzania, Uganda, Republic of Korea, Nigeria, and Mozambique. Their presence adds to the academic dynamism of the University, enriching classrooms with global perspectives and fostering cross-cultural understanding. While they have opted for a variety of programmes, one student from Lithuania is notably pursuing a Ph.D. in Hindi.

Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University, interacted with the newly admitted students on Friday. Warmly welcoming them, he remarked that the arrival of students from across the globe not only enhances the University’s academic environment but also strengthens Tezpur University’s role as a hub of knowledge exchange. He also announced that a dedicated hostel for international students, named after Nelson Mandela, will soon be inaugurated.

Prof. Subhrangshu Sekhar Sarkar, Director, Directorate of International Affairs (DIA), briefed the students about the entry channels for international admissions. Currently, students are enrolled through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Portal, the Study in India (SII) Portal, the Tezpur University Entrance Examination (TUEE), and the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme.

Prof. R. R. Hoque, Dean, Academic Affairs, was also present during the interaction. At present, a total of 52 international students are pursuing their studies at Tezpur University.
