Sonitpur Police arrested 4 with 612gms Heroin

In a significant breakthrough, the Sonitpur Police intercepted a vehicle and seized a large quantity of suspected heroin, weighing 612gms, in Tezpur on Tuesday, 16th July 2024. According to sources, the police team intercepted a Mahindra Bolero vehicle (AS-09E-8185) near Amir Hotel under Mahabhairab OP at around 2:00 PM. Upon searching the vehicle, the police found 50 soap cases containing suspected heroin hidden inside the back seat.

The police arrested four accused persons in connection with the seizure. The accused have been identified as Rajib Islam (32), Jiabur Rahman (27), Faijul Islam (21), and Fokoruddin Ali (30), all residents of different villages in Lakhimpur and Hojai districts. The seized heroin, weighing 612gms without the soap boxes, is believed to be worth a significant amount on the illegal market. The police are investigating the source and intended destination of the contraband.
