Tezpur, August 13 : A public consultive meeting was conducted with police officials, media persons, members of Chamber of Commerce and general public to discuss about a concerning problem “Traffic issues in Tezpur” under the active leadership of Superintendent of Police, Sonitpur, Sri Dhananjay P. Ghanwat on Thursday.
Throughout the discussion, many suggestions were provided by citizens present and has been noted by the authorities for further actions. There were discussions and suggestions regarding – identification of ‘entry and exit’ points to and from Tezpur, illegal roadside parking, proper utilisation of the footpaths, awareness mechanisms, generating behavioural attitudes, locating possible spaces for parking etc.
The meeting was held in presence of Traffic Incharge Dhireshwar Baruah, Circle Officer Pankaj Borah, Assistant Commissioner Simi Karan, District Transport Officer, HOD of Civil Engineering Department, Tezpur University, Dr. Kamal Uddin Ahmed and few other delegates.
The meeting started with the chanting of the State Anthem and was formally concluded with the National Anthem. Though the Tezpur city has historic importance, it was felt that the city planning lacked futuristic approaches and thus with large increment of public and private vehicles, the city is now facing severe problems over traffic issues. The initiative was much appraised as it appreciated public participation to understand the public woes and shows the concern of authorities to reach an amicable outcome.
