A webinar on “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” was organised by the Dept. of Addiction Medicine, LGBRIMH, on 26/06/2021 from 3 pm through online mode. Shri C.B. Gogoi, Hon’ble District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman District Legal Services Authority, Sonitpur, Tezpur, Dr Pratima Murthy, Director, NIMHANS and Dr Debasish Basu, Professor of Psychiatry, PGIMER, Chandigarh were the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour – I and Guest of Honour – II respectively.
Various aspects of drug abuse and possible intervention and remedial measures were discussed. Dr S. K. Deuri, Director, LGBRIMH, also forwarded his valuable views on the social and legal issues related to the menace and hoped that this problem can be dealt with in collaboration with all concerned.
The tobacco cessation clinic was inaugurated by Dr Sk Deuri, at LGBRIMH. Tobacco Cessation Centre (TCC) is a special service will run by the Department of Addiction and Medicine, LGBRIMH, Tezpur.
The services will be offered to the people of the northeast at the TCC, it will provide individual intervention, medication, therapy and counselling. The Department of Addiction and Medicine also intend to create awareness among the general public especially the youth about the negative effects of tobacco through awareness programs at school and colleges, through street play, exhibitions and training programs on tobacco cessation for various professionals
