Tezpur: Lachit Borphukan honoured with Mural and Lamp Tribute On 403rd Birth Anniversary

Tezpur, November 24, 2025 (Monday): Tezpur witnessed a heartfelt commemoration of Mahabir Lachit Borphukan’s 403rd birth anniversary, as local artists and student activists came together on Lachit Divas to celebrate the legendary Assamese warrior’s enduring legacy.

Under the Uraniya Bridge at Dolabari in Tezpur, local artists created a striking portrait of Lachit Borphukan, the 17th‑century Ahom commander revered as a symbol of bravery and Assamese pride. The artistic tribute was organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Tezpur Town Unit, reflecting the community’s deep respect for the historical figure who successfully defended Assam against Mughal invasion in the famed Battle of Saraighat in 1671.

As evening descended, the celebration took on a spiritual dimension when organisers lit 101 earthen lamps before the freshly painted portrait. The traditional lamp‑lighting ceremony served as a symbolic tribute to the warrior whose military genius and unwavering patriotism continue to inspire generations of Assamese people.

The commemoration echoed the sentiment expressed by organisers that “the motherland is always greater than one’s own mother”, highlighting Lachit Borphukan’s supreme sacrifice and steadfast dedication to protecting his homeland, a message that continues to resonate deeply in contemporary Assamese society.
