Sonitpur : 62 fresh Covid infections ; active cases cross 300 mark in the District

Tezpur, April 21 : In light of the unexpected storm of Covid-19 outbreak in the entire country, Assam is also now witnessing considerable rise in the Covid cases in an alarming rate. While Kamrup (M) remains most affected in the State followed by Kamrup (R), Dibrugarh; it’s Sonitpur which is taking the 4th place since last few days. 140 infections were registered in last 48 hours (78 on Tuesday and 62 on Wednesday) taking the tally of active cases to 324 in Sonitpur district.

The total number of Covid Cases in the district stands at 8668 while 8319 of them already discharged. A total of 20 patients were discharged on Wednesday.

1665 new cases were registered on Wednesday in Assam out of 62,107 tests done. The positivity rate for 21st April stands at 2.68%

Meanwhile, Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday held a meeting with officials of Health Dept, PWD and Education Dept to discuss the current situation of COVID-19 and its management in the state.

Earlier while addressing the media persons in Guwahati, Dr. Sarma said that the day Guwahati witnesseses 1000 + cases, all schools and colleges will have to close their doors, which might also lead to the cancellation of HSLC and HS examinations of the state.
