Tezpur, December 29, 2025 (Monday): Major General Anurag Vij, Additional Director General of the North Eastern Region Directorate, conducted a comprehensive visit to Tezpur Group on Monday, combining inspection of cadet training programmes with tributes to fallen soldiers.

The senior officer’s day-long visit began with an inspection of the ongoing Army Attachment Camp for Southwest cadets at 155 Base Hospital. During the inspection, battalion officers briefed Maj Gen Vij on the training curriculum and methodology being employed for the young cadets.
Addressing the assembled cadets, the ADG emphasised the importance of acquiring life-saving skills and encouraged them to develop into responsible citizens. He highlighted how such training not only builds character but also equips young people with practical abilities that can serve their communities in times of need.
Following the camp inspection, Maj Gen Vij paid solemn tribute at Tezpur’s 1962 war memorial, laying a wreath at the monument dedicated to the Unknown Soldier. The memorial holds particular significance as it marks the site where the ashes of martyrs from the 1962 Indo-China conflict were immersed in 1963, serving as a poignant reminder of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
The visit concluded at Darrang College, where the ADG witnessed a cultural presentation by cadets from the 5 Assam Battalion NCC unit. Impressed by their performance, Maj Gen Vij praised the cadets for their enthusiasm and demonstrated skills. The event concluded with an informal tea session, during which the ADG engaged in detailed conversations with the cadets, offering guidance and answering their questions.
The visit underscored the continued importance of NCC training in developing disciplined, skilled youth whilst honouring the military traditions and sacrifices that form the backbone of India’s defence heritage.
