Tezpur, January 12 : Shri Romen Dutta, President, Assam Cricket Association (ACA) and Shri Devajit Saikia, Secretary, ACA on Sunday inaugurated a Cricket Academy of Tezpur District Cricket Association at Polo Ground, Tezpur in presence of Shri Porikshit Dutta, Vice-President, ACA; Shri Tridip Konwar, Treasurer, ACA ; Shri Rup Kamal Kakoti, President, Tezpur District Cricket Association (TDCA); Shri Surajit Bora, General Secretary, Tezpur District Cricket Association; Shri Tapan Das, Treasurer, Hockey India and Shri Ritu Baran Sarmah, Vice-President, Assam Olympic Association amidst a huge gathering of sports organisers, players, technical persons and guardians.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Romen Dutta, President, ACA shed light on the various cricket infrastructure development projects being undertaken by ACA across Assam for the development of the game.
In his speech, Shri Devajit Saikia, Secretary, ACA highlighted the significance and importance of the Cricket Academy of Tezpur District Cricket Association. Saying that Tezpur has a rich history of producing quality cricket players, he added that the said Cricket Academy would help many budding cricketers to hone their skills and leave a mark. He, during his address, also spoke about the need for uniformity in Cricket Coaching across the State, and underscored the initiatives being taken up by ACA for the cause.
Shri Rup Kamal Kakoti, President, Tezpur District Cricket Association, in his speech, expressed his gratitude to ACA for helping TDCA and other district units for promotion of cricket activities in their respective districts and also for the establishment of the Tezpur Cricket Academy. He further added that in spite of a favourable order of the Guwahati High Court, there is an inaction on the part of the local authorities in not allowing TDCA to construct a sports hostel in the first floor of their existing building, and as a result of which, TDCA has not been able to provide residential accommodation to the players despite the allotted funds lying in their account. He urged Shri Devajit Saikia, Secretary, ACA to take up the matter before the competent authority including the District Administration of Sonitpur to break the stalemate in this regard. Shri Devajit Saikia, Secretary, ACA has assured all necessary help and support from his personal as well as from the end of ACA to resolve the issue at the earliest.
