PRCI-YCC Northeast conducts webinar on LGBTQIA+ on occasion of Pride Month

Guwahati, June 27 : Young Communicators Club Northeast chapter (YCC), a student wing of Public Relations Council of India (PRCI) has conducted a webinar on LGBTQIA+ on the occasion of LGBTQ pride month. The webinar’s main objective was to understand gender, sex and sexuality and understanding the problems and needs of LGBTQIA+ in the country and especially in Northeast India.

The speaker on the occasion was Arpana Choudhury, a human rights activist from Tezpur. Her presentation was on the basics of gender, sex and sexuality and breaking the myths around the same. She highlighted on the issues that the LGBTQIA+ community face in India and how people’s perceptions can be changed.

Arpana was recognized by “Forbes” in their “30 under 30” category for her work among the Adivasi community in Assam. She is also an LGBTQIA+ activist and runs an organization Xobdo.

Director YCC Northeast and host of the event Subhankar Banerjee on the occasion said, “We are happy to hold a webinar on such a sensitive topic, awareness is the basic requirements to understand the LGBTQIA+ community and I am sure this webinar conducted by YCC Northeast has given us a proper understanding of the topic.”

Over 80-85 students from different location of India took part in the event, the event also had the top national office bearer of PRCI and YCC. National Chairperson PRCI-YCC Chinnmaye Praveen was the special guest and National Vice Chairman Avinash Gawai was the guest of honour on the occasion.
