Sonitpur DC highlights progress of Various Govt Scehemes implemented in the District

Owing to discuss various issues and schemes prevalent in the society, the District Administration on 02.11.2018 i.e Thursday organised a press conference with many journalists across the state at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall in Tezpur, Assam.

Sources reavealed that the Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner Mr. Manoj Kumar Deka has highlighted the functioning of various Central and State Govt. Schemes active in our country.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Deka also laid emphasis to the National Rural Livelihood Mission which helped to form 6370 self help groups since 2014-15.


Under the Kanaklata Mahila Sabalikaran Achoni (KAMS), 5522 women SHGs in the district have received grants amounting to a total of Rs 849.95 lakh. Under the MGNREGS, in the current year, 1,48,201 job cards have been issued and against a demand received of 27,454, employment has been given to 22,354 persons. Expenditure incurred so far in this financial year is Rs.833.17 lakh.

Highlighting the success achieved in the district under the Swacch Bharat Mission (Rural) programme, the Deputy Commissioner informed that the Sonitpur district has already been declared Open Defecation Free on September 27 last.

Under the National Social Assistance Programme, 33501 persons are receiving old age pension, 5936 are receiving widow pensions and 1608 persons are receiving disability pensions as of date in the district.

Highlighting another flagship programme of the Central Government – the Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana- Grameen, the Deputy Commissioner informed that since 2016, 1811 houses have been completed under this scheme.

Highlighting the various welfare schemes rolled out for farmers, the Deputy Commissioner informed that a total of 240 tractors have so far been distributed to as many revenue villages under the Chief Minsiter’s Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana, out of the total 531 applications received so far. A total of 7582 Soil Health Cards have been distributed so far.
