International Day of Forests observed by Dept. of Botany, Rangapara College

Tezpur, Mar 22 : Rangapara College, one of the pioneer institutes of higher education in Sonitpur district observed the International Day of Forests by starting a medicinal plant garden in the college campus on Monday.

From 21st March, 2013, the International Day of Forests is celebrated every year throughout the world. The theme of this year’s celebration was “Forests and sustainable production and consumption”. The session was started
with an introductory speech by Mr. Ratan Chowdhury, HoD, Dept. of Botany, Rangapara College.

The inaugural speech was delivered by Dr. Ranjan Kalita, Principal, Rangapara College. In his short deliberation he emphasized on the need of the plants for the existence of the mankind. Following his talk, Dr. Ranendra Mohan Deka, Vice Principal, Rangapara College delivered his short speech on the importance of the medicinal plants to the research and development field.

Construction of the medicinal plant garden was an initiative by the Dept. of Botany, Rangapara College. The whole session was moderated by Mr. Subham Roy, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Botany, Rangapara College. A number of students and faculties have joined the session and took an active part in plantation program.
