Tezpur, July 29 : At a time when the Nation is battling the COVID-19 Pandemic, Floods continue to wreak havoc in Assam with more than 3 Million people affected directly or indirectly at current time. Such is the situation in Sonitpur District as well, where large area of croplands have already been washed away along with several houses submerged. The flood situation in Tezpur mainly affected the areas like – Tol Gereki, Maithan, Cotton Road, Jahaj Ghat, Lalmati, Besseria, Panch Mile among other adjoining rural areas.

In view of this grim situation arising out of Floods, Tezpur’s Frontline community based club, Interact Club of Agnigarh, which serves for the people in the time has yet again proved their motto.

In their bid to help the needy ones, the Club today took to Tezpur’s Maithan area for a flood relief camp, where more than 86 families were benefited. The club started crowd funding campaign through several mediums, few days prior to this relief camp where citizens whole heartedly extended their token of love.

Miss. Mrigashree Baruah, one of the stalwart members of the Club while speaking to Tezpur Buzz said, “All our Interactors worked really hard, continued to engage in packing the relief materials these days for a successful drive and we are happy that we could do this bit for the people in need today”. The relief kit included Ration, biscuits, soaps, masks, sanitary pads, band-aid, rice flakes, sanitizers and drinking water.

Four of our members of the club were present today in service for the camp : Ananya Das, Arindom Rajbongshi, Sampurana Tarat including me. We were also assisted by  a small team of Sonitpur Police to maintain law and order at the venue, Miss Baruah added.

It may be mentioned that, the drive was conducted pertaining to all social distancing norms and guidelines set by the government and what made this drive extraordinary was the members seen to be in PPE Kit during the distribution programme. Baruah further stated that, this was their first phase of the Flood Relief camp and the 2nd phase will be starting soon for which they are already receiving the donations. She along with all her members thanked all those who came forward to contribute for the relief drive.

Their service to mankind in this grim situation is praiseworthy and Tezpur Buzz takes an opportunity to appreciate this.
