Assam Skill Development Mission (Vivo Skills & Training centre)’s student becomes an entrepreneur after completion of his training.
From nothing to something and something more.
This is the story of Anuj Kalita, an educated unemployed youth from Tezpur.. Sounds cliche, isn’t it? But it’s not.
After completing his graduation in 2014 from Darrang College, Anuj tried his best to get a job and wanted to become a bread earner for his family. Despite best of his efforts, he couldn’t get a decent job. He didn’t even have enough money to start something of his own. Things started going against him in life. He went into a phase of depression and frustration.
And then a wind of change gushes into his life. He gets to know about Assam Skill Development Mission, a project under Skill India initiative. Anuj grabs the opportunity and enrolls himself in ASDM’s Vermicompost Production training program provided by Vivo Skills & Training, Lalmati Tezpur. He then starts the training under trainer Bimal Das and slowly things turn to his side. He gradually starts learning all the nitty gritty of Vermicompost Production, it’s technicalities and parameters. He subsequently also gets trained in the business and marketing aspects of the same from business trainer Subhasish Ghosh. Now he is a certified Vermicompost Producer under National Skill Development Council.
With all the knowledge and support from ASDM and Vivo Skills & Training, Anuj has set up a few vermi-pits with the least investment of Rupees 5000 per pit. He has now a projection of earning sufficient income from Vermicompost business to run his entire family within a short span of time.
Vermicompost is a organic manure(in Assamese ‘kesu xhaar’) is produced by the earthworms using biological waste material such as cow dung, banana tree bark, plants residues and biodegradable waste from kitchen. Nowadays Vermicompost is preferred for organic farming as it is eco friendly and non-toxic. It is used not only in tea gardens, where per month requirements is in tonnes, but also used in nurseries and for home gardening. The per kg cost of Vermicompost varies from 15/- rupees to 40/- rupees a kg depending on the quality of manure.
There are a number of other successful entrepreneurs in and around Sonitpur District who have started producing Vermicompost since last quite some time.
Anuj told that the daily classes at Vivo Skills Lalmati centre are very useful to turn his dream into reality. The teachers and all the staff were very supportive. They cleared not only all the doubts in class but helped him in setting up the pits at his place. Vivo Skills had not charged him any money and by just submitting his govt ID proof, education certificate and 2 photos, he got admission and he was also facilitated with free uniforms and study materials. Even though the training is free of cost, the infrastructure and taining module is of state-of-art class. All the teachers are well qualified and TOT certified (Govt of India).
Like Anuj, there are many more lives, who got benefited from the support of ASDM and Vivo Skills. We will share the other stories very soon. Stay tuned..
